‘We defend Canada for nothing’: Donald Trump takes aim at nation for ‘ripping America off’

​US President Donald Trump has claimed Canada is “not a state”. ​“Canada’s been ripping us off for a long time on trade, very sadly,” Mr Trump said. ​“Even the military, we defend Canada for nothing. We don’t get anything; they don’t pay us to defend Canada, but we defend Canada. ​“They don’t pay for anything, and they want to get treated like a state, but they’re not a state.”
