‘Butcher of Bosnia’ Ratko Mladic dies in prison

War criminal Ratko Mladic, nicknamed the 'butcher of Bosnia', has died in jail in The Hague at 84. The Bosnian-Serb military commander was serving a life sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity. He oversaw a campaign of ethnic cleansing as Yugoslavia was broken up in the 1990s. An international court found him responsible for the massacre of around 8,000 Muslims in a UN-designated 'safe area' of Bosnia. Ratko Mladic was arrested in 2011 and lived the rest of his life in custody.
