US pullback on AI development would only hand lead to ‘bad actors’ China and Russia

​The Australian Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says American artificial intelligence companies pulling back on development will hand the lead to “bad actors” China and Russia. ​“If AI goes rogue, it could go rogue just as easily from a Chinese model or Russian model, and your only defence against it then would be an AI-built defence,' Mr Sheridan told News24. ​“This is a pivotal moment in human history. ​“We’ve got to try to align AI objectives with not harming human beings, and we know the bad actors China and Russia are using AI all the time to conduct cybercrime and offensive military operations.”
