UN blasts brutal Iranian regime for executing at least 56 people since war began

The UN has blasted Iran’s regime for executing at least 56 people on dubious national security charges since March. Twenty-seven of those executed were linked to January’s protests, with roughly 100 more reportedly awaiting the death penalty. UN rights chief Volker Turk condemned the executions as a “deeply troubling” tactic allegedly designed to terrorise Iranians and crush dissent. "Such punishment has no place in our world," Turk said. The UN warning comes as Iran faces mounting pressure during the war, with executions raising fresh fears the regime is using terror to cling to power.
