Former Victorian Liberal Colleen Harkin accuses schools of focusing on Australia’s past wrongs while overlooking the achievements of explorers, pioneers and other Australians. “It’s very sort of cherry picking of our history and the children don’t learn all the amazing things that are surrounding them,” Ms Harkin told News24 host Jaimee Rogers. “Our explorers, our pioneers, the achievements, the hard work of some people, they really don’t learn any of it; what they learn is grievance history. “They are taught that they are invaders in their own country and that they're invalid being here, so it is no wonder that at a certain age they start to be embarrassed about being Australian; they’re not proud.”
