Assistant Defence Minister Peter Khalil weighs in on the live streaming of the firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, calling for tech companies to restrict the content from being available to watch on social media from Australia. “There are different standards, I think, than the broadcasters that you have to meet … I’ve always had a view … that content is content,” Mr Khalil told News24. “The standards that we need to meet in one form of broadcast should apply broadly. “There’s always been this debate that somehow online or the internet is somehow different … I don’t agree with that. “If something is explicit, violent, if it would cause damage, if it’s hate speech … there needs to be some restrictions around that.”
