Rural communications service not good enough as some feel like they’re in the 60s

Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Cynthia Gebert says they’ve received thousands of complaints in remote and rural areas where simple mobile coverage isn’t working. “We looked at nearly 28,000 complaints over the last two years from regional, rural and remote consumers; while the nature of the issues is largely the same, what we're seeing is people might be left paying more for a substandard service,” Ms Gebert told News24 host Ross Greenwood. “One consumer, for example, is telling us they feel like they’re going back to the 60s, using their UHF radio again because they can’t rely on mobile technology.”
