Michigan Senate primary goes down to the wire in crucial battle that could shape 2026

Polls have closed in Michigan with Democrats locked in a dramatic primary fight that could shape control of the Senate. Rep Haley Stevens and progressive challenger Abdul El-Sayed have battled fiercely for the nomination in the key swing state. With more than 40 per cent of votes counted around 8 pm local time, El-Sayed is holding a narrow three-point lead. El-Sayed is sitting roughly at 49 per cent while Stevens lags behind with 46 per cent of the share.
