Mamdani brutally heckled by anti-Israel protesters waving Hamas flags at October 7 vigil

Zohran Mamdani was loudly booed and heckled at an October 7 vigil in Union Square as anti-Israel protesters descended on the event. Some demonstrators, including people waving Hamas flags, shouted “coward” and accused the New York mayor of betraying Palestinian causes. The crowd repeatedly chanted “shame on you” and “Zohran you can’t hide” as Mamdani stood silently with a candle. Organisers described the scene as verbally violent, saying hundreds of counter-protesters overwhelmed what was meant to be a solemn vigil. The backlash came after an earlier City Hall protest where activists accused Mamdani of abandoning Palestinians since taking office.
