Ousted Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores have pleaded not guilty to new US charges. The pair appeared in a Manhattan federal court, where Mr Maduro rejected the allegations of conspiring to torture political opponents. His wife told the judge she was “completely innocent”. Neither is accused of personally carrying out acts of torture. Their trial has now been delayed until June next year as the couple face a mandatory minimum of 50 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
