Houthi Red Sea control potentially an ‘unmitigated disaster’

The Australian Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan argues the continued Houthi expansion of control in the Red Sea may be an “unmitigated disaster”. ​“The American military under Trump has got a certain amount of traffic going back through the Strait of Hormuz,” Mr Sheridan told News24. ​“The other big source of oil from that region is the Red Sea, and the Houthis now effectively control the Red Sea. ​“If the Houthis, at Iranian command, at some stage decide to end the Red Sea as a route for oil, that’s another 7 per cent of global energy. ​“It’s very bad for the whole global economy to have such massive disruption to energy supplies.”
