Hobart City Council has voted to begin the process of handing five hectares of public land back to the local Aboriginal community. The Hobart City Council has agreed “in principle” to hand land over to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Land Council for use as a cultural site. Nine councillors supported the proposal to transfer five hectares of the Queens Domain to the Aboriginal group. The Land Council has suggested building a cultural centre to house sacred artefacts currently held in museums.
