News24 host Caleb Bond discusses the government’s plan to create ‘carbon credits’ to lower emissions or else face a fine. “So basically, what the federal government would say to people who are consuming fuel and people who are supplying fuel is that you have to move to lower carbon options,” Mr Bond said. “If you don’t do that, if you go over a certain amount that’s been used, we’ll fine you. “In order to get around that fine, you have an emissions trading scheme, which means the government creates carbon credits, which, if you then go over your limit, you can buy from another company … that has gone under their limit. “Essentially you’re horse trading so that everyone ends up using less fuel.”
