Macrobusiness Chief Economist Leith Van Onselen warns Labor’s proposed emissions policy could deliver another major blow to Australian industry already struggling with soaring energy costs and drive more manufacturing offshore. “This would be absolutely disastrous were it to come to pass,” Mr Onselen told News24 host Peta Credlin. “It would deal another hammer blow to Australian industry which, let’s face it, is already reeling from high energy costs. “In recent years, we’ve seen many manufacturers go bust. “We simply export our emissions to another jurisdiction with weaker rules.”
