China's defence chief Dong Jun has urged countries to find a new path to security in what he described as a volatile world. He was addressing delegations from about 100 countries, regions and organisations at the Xiangshan Forum — China's largest annual security gathering. Mr Dong said global governance was at a critical moment, calling for an equal and orderly multipolar world. He made no explicit mention of the US, Taiwan or South China Sea tensions, but some of his remarks appeared to be a veiled swipe at Japan, which Beijing has repeatedly accused of moving towards "remilitarisation".
