When Singapore takes over as ASEAN chair next year, Singapore wants the bloc to become a stronger economic and strategic force of its own, rather than an arena for major-power competition. Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan says that means deeper integration and stronger global partnerships. He added that AI and other emerging technologies are creating tremendous opportunities, but also greater inequality and volatility, so navigating both will be a key test.
