Singapore's Parliament passed motion calling on government to secure country’s food future

Singapore's Parliament has passed a motion calling on the government to secure the country’s food future. The motion calls for stronger food resilience, better ways to reduce food waste and to keep food affordable. This, amid geopolitical uncertainty and climate-related risks. MPs from the Sustainability and the Environment GPC (Government Parliamentary Committee) raised the motion. Among the GPC's suggestions are more funding and logistical support for food charity groups. MPs also raised the issue of date-marking practices. The aim is to rescue and redistribute more surplus food so less of it goes to waste. Charlotte Lim with more. Meanwhile, authorities are reviewing date-marking practices which could allow more food that’s still safe to eat to be donated instead of thrown away. More details will be shared next year. The move is among ways the government is looking at to reduce food waste.
