Singapore’s mid-year traffic situation: Road traffic accidents and casualties continued to rise

Road traffic accidents and casualties continued to rise in Singapore in the first half of 2026. According to the police mid-year update, there were more than 3,900 road accidents that saw casualties. The number is a nearly 3% jump compared with the same period last year. It continued an upward trend over the past three years. But the number of fatal accidents and fatalities fell by more than 20%. Vulnerable road users like the elderly, motorcyclists and pillion riders continued to account for a large number of injuries and deaths. In fact, more than half of traffic accidents recorded involved motorcyclists and pillion riders. Nadine Yeam reports.
