Persistent rain causes widespread flooding in Bangkok and surrounding areas

Heavy rain caused widespread flooding and traffic disruptions in downtown Bangkok and the wider metropolitan area on Friday (Sep 25). In the Thai capital's Khlong Sam Wa district, rainfall had reached 105.5mm by 10am. The Thai Meteorological Department said the persistent rain was due to a low-pressure area interacting with a monsoon trough across upper Thailand.
