Next move on trade deal is up to US, says India's commerce and industry minister

India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal says the United States needs to create the conditions for a trade deal between the two countries to move forward. Speaking to CNA during a visit to Singapore, the minister said that the two countries had worked out an agreement, but circumstances changed following a US Supreme Court ruling that invalidated some of the Trump administration's tariffs. He said the deal could proceed when conditions allow Indian products to receive preferential treatment in the US. Goyal also attended the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable on Thursday (Aug 20), where Singapore and India inked deals on ways to expand collaboration in areas such as agri-food trade and maritime heritage.
