Rain and cooler temperatures have brought some relief to Paris after weeks of punishing heat, but new figures reveal the deadly toll of France’s extreme summer. At least 1,200 more deaths were recorded during its July heatwave, on top of more than 5,700 who died during the previous heatwave. The figures come as extreme weather continues to hammer parts of Europe, with wildfires burning from Belgium to the Mediterranean and forcing more evacuations. Ross Cullen reports from Paris.
