Israel continues deadly strikes on Gaza despite Trump truce efforts

Israeli strikes have continued across Gaza, killing at least 18 Palestinians, including a pregnant woman, on Sunday (Aug 2). The strikes came despite US President Donald Trump announcing on Jul 30 a breakthrough in implementing a Gaza ceasefire agreement signed last year, saying Hamas had agreed to disarm. But Hamas said Israel must first end its military offensive and withdraw its troops, in line with last year's deal. An Israeli official told Reuters there would be no troop withdrawal unless Hamas underwent "genuine disarmament".
