International comparisons of political salaries should be treated with care because headline salaries do not tell the full story, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10) during a debate on changes to Singapore’s political salary framework. He said remuneration in some countries may include pensions, allowances, housing or other benefits, while political systems differ in how responsibilities are divided and how ministers operate.
