【GUEST】 B. R. DEEPAK Professor of Chinese and China Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University, India In an interview with CGTN, Professor B. R. Deepak of Jawaharlal Nehru University highlights BRICS' growing relevance and China's important role in its future. He also calls for the resumption of the China-India Strategic Economic Dialogue to advance bilateral cooperation. The larger sections of the intelligentsia in this country, including many people in this university – they believe that BRICS remains one of the fundamental, foundational platforms for cooperation. And the relevance is growing day by day. So we can see how BRICS, from just five countries in the past, has expanded into 11 and then plus 10 partner countries. So, therefore, the expanding nature of BRICS and especially, you can say, its population composition or its share in global trade, and also the global economic output – which should be around 40%. And moreover, some of the practical measures on BRICS which are going on. For example, the grants and loans from the BRICS New Development Bank, which India has got to the tune of almost 9 billion US dollars and above for almost 13 projects which are going on, whether they are infrastructure-related, whether they are sanitation-related, whether they are clean energy-related. We have many problems in the Global South. We have illiteracy; we have poverty – almost 700 million people in the Global South are still poor. So how do we elevate them from poverty? So what kind of model are you going to adopt, whether it is the American model or the Western model for modernization? Or is it the model for large populations to be modernized, and who has the experience for that? And naturally, another Global South country is China. Therefore, they are very clear that if you have to cooperate, you have to develop; you have to realize your industrialization and modernization; you need to bring China on board. Because China is there; whether you are willing or not willing to accept China as a pole or the strongest pole in BRICS, it is there. And you got to cooperate with China. Many of the Indian people don't think big about China, right? Which is a flawed perspective. We have to recognize this fact that China is a big trading power. It's a big manufacturing hub. It has big technological prowess and it has made headway in the new technologies, which we really can benefit from. 📺 Subscribe to our YouTube channel and stay updated with our latest analysis and interviews:👇 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgrNz-aDmcr2uuto8_DL2jg 👈 Download our APP on Apple Store (iOS): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cctvnews-app/id922456579?l=zh&ls=1&mt=8 Download our APP on Google Play (Android): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imib.cctv For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video Most watched videos: Impossible Challenge: 30 seconds to count banknotes BLINDFOLDED https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmP_Ybj-jws Impossible Challenge: Gymnastics Boy Arat Hosseini from Iran! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sxX--U4c8w Impossible Challenge: How to calm babies in 5 seconds? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR3q9sXM7WA
