Nick Clegg: How Silicon Valley's 'odd' culture drives the AI debate | BBC Radio 4 Today

Former deputy PM Nick Clegg has said Silicon Valley bosses “don’t agree amongst themselves” about the future of AI, and we hear “most apocalyptic voices the most loudly”. The AI investor who previously worked at Meta said Silicon Valley in California - where a lot of tech companies are based - is “an odd place” where “engineers can get quite close to the technology and start slightly breathing their own fumes, as they wind themselves into a lather”. Clegg’s comments come after several AI bosses warned artificial intelligence needs to be regulated because of future dangers, with an Anthropic researcher suggesting there is a greater than 10% chance of it "killing all humans”.
