The UK government is expected to decide soon on whether to give the go-ahead for a controversial new gas field, known as Jackdaw, off the coast of Aberdeen. The gas field was approved by the former Conservative government in 2022, but final approval was delayed by a legal ruling. Supporters argue the new drilling would improve the UK's energy security as overseas conflicts threaten supply. But others are concerned about the environmental impact.
