The UK Green Party has voted to define Zionism as a form of racism at its annual conference on Sunday. The motion also backs the creation of a single democratic Palestinian state and calls for the UK to end all arms sales to Israel. Israel has condemned the policy as anti-Semitic, and its foreign ministry has banned the party's leader, Zack Polanski, from entering Israel. Mitchell Barak, a former foreign ministry aide to Benjamin Netanyahu and former speechwriter for Ariel Sharon, told Al Jazeera the Green Party resolution calls for Israel to be wiped out and for a Palestinian state from the river to the sea. He said the policy violates the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, which the UK has adopted. When asked about Israel's international image, Barak dismissed the significance of polling showing widespread unfavourable views of Israel, saying the country is not looking to win a popularity contest but to survive. He said Israel is fighting an existential battle against seven different countries and groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. On Israel's upcoming election, Barak said foreign policy is not the main focus, and Israelis will vote for the party they believe can protect Israel's future. He said that even if Israel is standing alone, what matters is the survival of the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
