Trump revives Russia-Ukraine peace push as envoys head to Moscow and Kyiv

The United States is reviving efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, with President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner set to visit Moscow and Kyiv. Trump says there may be a “good chance” of reaching an agreement, as Washington seeks to restart negotiations after months of stalled diplomacy. The visit comes as fighting continues to intensify. Ukraine has expanded its strikes inside Russia, while Moscow has responded with frequent attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian targets. Russia currently controls around 20 percent of Ukrainian territory and wants its territorial gains recognised as part of any potential settlement. Ukraine, meanwhile, continues to call for an end to Russia’s occupation and stronger security guarantees. Witkoff and Kushner previously met Russian and Ukrainian officials in Abu Dhabi. Their latest mission will also take them to Ukraine for the first time, as Kyiv presses Washington to engage more directly with Ukrainian officials.
