A Russian drone strike hit Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv around lunchtime, killing one person. The building is in the cultural heart of the Ukrainian capital, near the National Opera and Khreshchatyk. People inside described a powerful explosion and questioned why the administrative building, which contains paperwork and archives rather than laboratories, was targeted. The attack comes amid nearly six days of rolling strikes on Kyiv, with residential buildings, a school, kindergarten, market and communications infrastructure among the targets.
