One of the worst‑hit areas in Indonesia’s powerful earthquake is Ruteng, where the local hospital is so badly damaged that nearly 200 patients are being treated in tents in a carpark. Survivors describe hours trapped under debris, the loss of relatives and homes they spent decades building, while doctors struggle with limited medicine, equipment and staff. Many villagers say they have yet to receive government aid and sleep under makeshift plastic shelters. Al Jazeera’s Jessica Washington reports from East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
