Israeli settlers attack West Bank village and block Palestinian family from returning home

At least 100 Israeli settlers attacked a village in the occupied West Bank on Monday night, preventing a Palestinian family from returning to their home in Jalud after settler harassment and violence forced them to leave two months ago. The Israeli military said it had coordinated the family's return, but the settlers blocked them from entering the home. In nearby Beitunia, Israeli forces shut roads and restricted Palestinian movement after settlers entered the area during Jewish holidays, bringing businesses and daily travel to a halt. The settlers said they were there for religious prayers near a water spring, but the gathering has been described as another attempt to intimidate Palestinians and assert control over land. The Israeli forces were seen protecting the settlers while restricting Palestinian movement, disrupting roads used by workers, students and businesses. The Jalud family also has an Israeli Supreme Court order requiring settlers to leave their home, but after the settlers initially left, the house was set on fire to prevent the family from returning. The attacks come less than a month before Israeli elections, with settler activity increasingly featuring in a right-wing political campaign focused on restricting Palestinian movement, expanding settlements and taking Palestinian land.
