In appeal to the American people, IRGC says US must end its ‘war crimes’

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been discussing what it calls a letter to the American people. IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi laid out the message at a news conference, saying Tehran is ready to talk directly to people in the United States. He questioned why the US needs what he described as 800 military bases around the world. The letter claims many Americans are not aware of crimes committed by the US military and says Washington has not explained its military presence abroad. The IRGC spokesman said Iran’s military budget is 1 percent of the US annual military budget, arguing that Iran is not the interventionist party. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Qatari and Pakistani mediators in the US on Monday. Araghchi said he is still waiting for Washington’s response to an Iranian peace proposal and hopes the process will be completed soon. He said talks are more serious after Iran submitted seven points, although Iranian officials continue to use forceful rhetoric and insist Tehran is ready to defend itself militarily.
