Exit polls in Israel’s election project Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party to win 24 seats, with former military chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party close behind on 22. But the projected distribution of seats across political blocs tells a different story. The opposition bloc is projected to win 52 seats, compared with 50 for Netanyahu’s bloc. Both remain short of the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority. More than 74% of eligible Israeli voters reportedly cast their ballots, in an election being closely watched for its implications for the country’s political future. Al Jazeera reports from Likud party headquarters and the opposition’s Yashar party headquarters as the first exit poll projections emerge.
