Gadi Eisenkot, leader of Israel’s Yashar party, has declared that Israel has chosen change, pledging to form a new government after election exit polls put the opposition bloc ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc. Speaking to supporters at his party headquarters, Eisenkot said Israelis were tired of the current government and called on Netanyahu to accept the preliminary results. He promised a government that would unite the country, make military service mandatory and address Israel’s political, economic and security challenges. Eisenkot also urged law enforcement authorities to stand firm and accused Netanyahu of potentially using national security for political purposes. However, the exit polls indicate that neither major bloc has the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority, leaving coalition negotiations crucial to determining who will form the next government.
