Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe has proposed ending the automatic funding stream to the Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) program, arguing that its existing treasury is sufficient to continue supporting projects. Bowe suggested redirecting the 8% share of Zcash block subsidies that ZCG currently receives to the network's sustainability reserve until the current funding period concludes in 2028. He noted that ZCG holds over $125 million in funding and will receive more before the automatic payments cease. The ZCG dashboard showed 91,453 ZEC and $8.8 million in cash as of Wednesday, with $2.4 million in outstanding commitments. The ZEC holdings alone were valued at approximately $111 million.
