Key facts
- Glamsterdam upgrade on Hoodi testnet delayed due to gas security risks.
- ChainSecurity flagged EIP-8037 gas repricing could allow failure handlers to succeed in previously reverted scenarios.
- The delay removes the Amsterdam execution-layer activation and Gloas consensus-layer activation from the October 26 epoch.
- ChainSecurity identified 13 real-world examples of potentially affected smart contracts.
- The Sepolia testnet upgrade is unaffected by the delay.
Ethereum core developers have postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, originally scheduled for October 26, 2026, due to identified gas-related security risks. The decision, made during All Core Devs Execution call #248, aims to allow deeper investigation into how EIP-8037’s gas accounting changes interact with existing mainnet smart contracts. Security firm ChainSecurity flagged that EIP-8037’s gas repricing could allow failure handlers to succeed in scenarios that previously reverted, potentially breaking assumptions in certain contracts. ChainSecurity identified 13 real-world examples of potentially affected smart contracts. The postponement removes the Amsterdam execution-layer activation, the Gloas consensus-layer activation, and the planned raise of Hoodi’s gas limit to 200 million. No replacement date has been set. The Glamsterdam upgrade had already activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6 and is unaffected by this delay.
