Ripple's XRP cryptocurrency experienced a significant price increase, surging nearly 20% to $1.38, as the XRP Ledger (XRPL) moves closer to implementing an institutional lending protocol. The initiative, a collaboration between Ripple, Clearpool, and Cicada Partners, aims to introduce credit infrastructure on the XRPL using RLUSD as the credit asset.
Clearpool, which has facilitated over $930 million in institutional loans since 2021, is constructing the lending platform as a Lending Protocol and Single Asset Vault. Cicada Partners, with extensive credit underwriting experience, will manage credit operations, including borrower evaluation and loan servicing. Ripple will act as a limited partner alongside other institutional investors, focusing on fintech, payment service providers, and crypto businesses that utilize stablecoins for working capital.
The development coincides with broader positive market sentiment, including Bitcoin surpassing $78,000 and President Donald Trump's call for increased transparency and regulation in the crypto space. The U.S. Treasury's announcement to accelerate debt buybacks also contributed to increased investor appetite.
Clearpool is currently testing the lending integration on the XRPL Devnet, with a technical demonstration planned. However, the proposed amendments for the Lending Protocol and Single Asset Vault require approval from at least 80% of trusted XRPL validators for two consecutive weeks.
