Vox.com has laid off four employees as the news website undergoes its first restructuring since being acquired by James Murdoch's investment firm, Lupa Systems. The deal, valued at over $300 million, included Vox.com, New York Magazine, and the Vox Media podcast network.
Editor-in-Chief Swati Sharma informed staff of the organizational changes, stating they are part of a broader effort to identify growth opportunities and enhance audience engagement across multiple platforms. Sharma indicated a renewed editorial focus on areas such as societal shifts, power dynamics, and everyday economics. Further details on editorial priorities are expected at an upcoming all-staff meeting.
Murdoch's acquisition did not encompass other Vox Media brands, including Eater, Popsugar, The Verge, and SB Nation, which were acquired by Penske Media Corporation.
