His tenure at Carillion, where he served as a non-executive director, ended with the company's liquidation in January 2018. He later chaired the Interserve group from July 2019, guiding it through financial difficulties. Currently, Lovell also serves as the chairman of the Environment Agency.
British Steel was originally formed as the nationalised British Steel Corporation (BSC) in 1967, comprising about 90% of the UK's steelmaking capacity. It was privatised in 1988 as British Steel plc and later merged with Koninklijke Hoogovens in 1999 to form Corus Group. The UK government has recently taken full control of the company.
