Britain's interior minister Shabana Mahmood announced on Monday an urgent review of security arrangements for high-profile public figures in the wake of the killing of former MP Ann Widdecombe in July. Counter-terrorism police are investigating the murder, which they allege was ideologically motivated, and are looking into whether the suspect intended to target other prominent figures.
Mahmood stated that the review would assess the current security provided to a range of individuals, including members of the royal family, ministers, lawmakers, and other prominent politicians. Additionally, she announced an expansion of dedicated police support for political party leaders who are not currently lawmakers, as well as for former lawmakers and political party spokespeople.
