UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has formally signaled her intention to potentially block the proposed acquisition of ITV’s broadcast and streaming divisions by Sky. The deal, valued at £1.6 billion ($2.1 billion), faces regulatory scrutiny as the government weighs the impact on the British media landscape. Nandy expressed concerns regarding the transaction’s potential effect on the breadth of content available to the public, including "the need for free expression of opinion in news media" and "the need for a sufficient plurality of views in news media in each market." She is also considering updating legislation to include streaming services. Sky and ITV have five days to respond to her notice.
