Tanzanian opposition activist Twaha Mwaipaya was reported missing in Kenya on Sunday, October 26, according to a police report seen by Reuters. Mwaipaya was traveling by taxi to visit friends in Kamulu, approximately 35 km east of Nairobi, when three unidentified men intercepted him around 2 p.m. local time. The men ordered the taxi driver out of the vehicle before driving away with Mwaipaya inside. Reuters could not independently verify the account, and it was unclear who took Mwaipaya or if he had been harmed. Kenyan and Tanzanian police spokespeople did not immediately respond to requests for comment. This case follows reported cross-border abductions of government critics in Kenya, including Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye in November 2024 and Tanzanian activist Maria Sarungi Tsehai in January 2025.
