Franco-Italian automaker Stellantis announced on Tuesday that its global third-quarter shipments decreased by 1% compared to the previous year, reaching an estimated 1.3 million vehicles. This decline was primarily attributed to a production shutdown in North America during the summer.
In North America, vehicle shipments saw a significant drop of 12%, totaling 357,000 units. This decrease was largely due to the production halt that affected popular Jeep models such as the Grand Cherokee and Compass, with each model experiencing a year-on-year reduction of 25,000 units.
Conversely, shipments in Europe increased by 10% to 588,000 units, marking the only region to show year-on-year growth. This improvement was driven by demand for electric vehicle (EV) models. The European figure includes approximately 44,000 vehicles distributed by Stellantis on behalf of its Chinese partner, Leapmotor.
Shipments in the Middle East and Africa region fell by 21% to 75,000 units. This decline was influenced by lower volumes in Turkey and Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with regional conflicts cited as an impacting factor.
Stellantis is scheduled to release its complete third-quarter financial results on October 28. The company's CEO, Antonio Filosa, had previously announced a €60 billion turnaround plan in May, following two years of declining market share and weak sales. The automaker is also showcasing six new vehicles and nine concept cars at the Paris Motor Show this week.
