Slovakia is reviving a dormant cooperation forum with Moscow, with energy supplies, nuclear fuel, and the treatment of Russian athletes high on the agenda. The Russian-Slovak Intergovernmental Commission, which covers economic, scientific and technical cooperation, has been dormant since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The last meeting was held in Bratislava on November 12, 2021. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said the meeting is scheduled for November 25 in Moscow. The renewed push for warmer Slovak-Russian relations follows Fico’s May 9 visit to Moscow, where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin. Slovakia remains heavily reliant on Russian oil and gas, and Fico has argued that ending imports would raise costs.
