Senator Van Hollen Accuses Trump of Profiting From Iran War

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen has accused President Donald Trump of profiting from the war in Iran, labeling the situation "pure corruption." Van Hollen stated on X that Trump has transformed the White House into a "pay-to-play casino" and continues to profit from Americans' hardship, including the "senseless war" he initiated.

Speaking to MSNBC, Van Hollen claimed that Trump has "pocketed over a billion dollars" since returning to office and is profiting from an "illegal war" he started, with the alleged complicity of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Van Hollen argued that Trump abandoned diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, instead choosing a path that endangers American lives and risks another prolonged conflict in the Middle East.

Van Hollen also criticized the administration's handling of the War Powers Act, stating that Trump has "shredded its provisions." He believes the war is illegal and that Congress should not appropriate the requested supplemental funding of approximately $70 billion, as doing so would retroactively approve an illegal war. Van Hollen called for the Senate to immediately vote on a War Powers Resolution to halt the conflict, emphasizing that Congress must use its power of the purse to stop what he deems an unnecessary war.
