The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has added tokenization to its fiscal 2027 examination priorities, placing it alongside emerging trends like artificial intelligence, extended trading hours, and quantum computing. The agency will examine tokenization as a high-risk area at clearing agencies, in addition to default management, securities lending, and operational risks. Cryptocurrencies, however, were not included as a standalone examination priority for the second consecutive year. The SEC's 2027 fiscal year began on October 1, 2026.
