Revolut, a UK-based fintech platform, has announced it will delist Tether's USDT stablecoin from its services, citing regulatory and risk considerations. The delisting process will begin on July 6, 2026, when users will no longer be able to purchase USDT. USDT deposits will cease to be supported after July 30, 2026. The full delisting is scheduled for August 31, 2026. Any remaining USDT holdings in user accounts after this date will be automatically converted into the user's base currency at the prevailing exchange rate.
This move highlights the impact of the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation on stablecoin access. Tether has reportedly refused to comply with MiCA, with CEO Paolo Ardoino expressing criticism of the framework's reserve requirements. Consequently, other exchanges like Coinbase have also begun delisting USDT in Europe. Revolut, which obtained a MiCA license as a crypto asset service provider in November 2025, has not specified if the delisting applies globally or only in certain jurisdictions.
At the time of publication, USDT is the third-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, valued at $184 billion, while its competitor USDC has a market cap of $73 billion.
