Coinbase's derivatives exchange, Deribit, is set to introduce perpetual contracts for US stocks, ETFs, and commodities starting August 31. This expansion into real-world assets (RWA) will allow traders to speculate on the price movements of equities such as NVIDIA, Microsoft, Meta, Tesla, Apple, Google, and Amazon, as well as broader market ETFs like QQQ and SPY. The new contracts will be quoted, margined, and settled in USDC, offering round-the-clock trading with leverage up to 50x, though specific pricing and risk rules will apply outside regular market hours.
The launch is a significant step in Coinbase's strategy to integrate traditional financial assets into its crypto derivatives platform. It coincides with a broader migration of derivatives trading from Coinbase's International Exchange (INTX) to a Deribit-powered gateway. This migration, expected to be fully completed by September 9, 2026, aims to consolidate liquidity and enhance execution speed for over 125 perpetual contracts, including options and dated futures to follow.
In addition to major tech stocks and ETFs, Deribit plans to introduce contracts for other equities, commodities like gold and oil, and even pre-IPO contracts for companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic. This move follows Deribit securing a broker-dealer license from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), enabling regulated spot trading services for international clients.
