The redeveloped Huanggang Port, a crucial 24-hour land boundary crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, commenced operations on October 12, 2026. The revamped facility, which began reconstruction in 2019, is designed to significantly enhance regional connectivity and streamline cross-border travel within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Officials expressed confidence in managing peak traffic, with the new port implementing a 'collaborative inspection and joint clearance' model. This system allows travelers to present their documents only once, reducing clearance times from around 30 minutes to approximately five minutes. The port boasts a daily capacity of 200,000 passengers, a fivefold increase compared to the original facility.
Hong Kong travel agencies and border shops have already begun capitalizing on the port's opening, with special tours offered and shopkeepers reporting brisk business. The original Huanggang Port, established in 1989, was China's first large-scale land port offering 24-hour clearance and had previously served hundreds of millions of travelers.
