The nationwide rollout at Target is the largest retail expansion for Pudgy Penguins' trading card game to date, bringing the total number of circulated cards to 15 million. The new series introduces enhanced gameplay mechanics and original artwork, including collaborations with characters from the Moonbirds collection.
Pudgy Penguins, currently the fourth-largest NFT collection by market capitalization, has been actively diversifying beyond digital assets. In 2023, its physical toys were introduced in over 2,000 Walmart stores, with CEO Luca Netz reporting over one million toys sold in the preceding 12 months. The project also employs a licensing model where NFT holders receive a 5% share of net revenue from physical products featuring their unique penguin characters.
Further diversification efforts include expansion into gaming. While the mobile game Pudgy Party exceeded one million downloads, the company announced it will halt further development to concentrate resources on a browser-based game, Pudgy World, set to launch in 2025.
